About Stonewheel Counseling

At Stonewheel Counseling Services, we believe that wellness exists among four connected principles: mental, social, spiritual and physical well-being. When one pillar is off, then our entire sense of wellness is affected. Although we are able to help and guide all ages of clients through difficult situations, our primary focus will be working with adolescents and young adults. Our experience working with this age group as educators gives us an advantage over others when it comes to understanding the problems of today’s youth. Through our experience working with young people we also know the importance of college and vocational counseling, and we have the skills and knowledge to help our clients explore their next steps in life by assessing their vocational interests and skills. Since society is ever changing and evolving so must our approach to solving the wellness issues of today.

In education it is important to teach young people how to navigate through challenging situations in order for them to find success. Bill has worked hard over the years to develop the rapport needed to develop the skills in his students to get through those difficult times. Coinciding with his teaching career Bill has also worked as a swim coach for children, adolescents and young adults. In his time as a coach he has helped guide many swimmers to college and helped them find careers that best suited their personalities and needs. Bill’s journey as an educator and a coach has allowed him the opportunity to work with a wide variety of young people from all walks of life and now he hopes to use his education and experience to help individuals who are struggling emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually. Bill proudly serves his supervision under Patrice Houston LPC-S.

Ben has worked in education for over 17 years and specializes in working with young people who are struggling for any number of reasons including learning difficulties, bullying, anxiety, depression, past trauma, or abuse. Ben works hard at building and maintaining a strong and trusting relationship with each client that is based on mutual respect and unconditional positive regard. He feels these principles are an important foundation for an effective therapeutic experience. Ben proudly serves his supervision under Patrice Houston LPC-S.

Our Counseling Approach

Our counseling approach, whether conducted in person or online, utilizes Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). This therapeutic method is evidence-based and goal-oriented, aiming to address clients' concerns in a short-term manner. By incorporating principles and practices of positive psychology, SFBT encourages clients to shift their focus from problems to constructing solutions. Rather than dwelling on the negative aspects, this approach empowers individuals to actively participate in their own growth and change. Through this constructive and solution-driven process, clients are guided to find practical and effective ways to overcome challenges and achieve their desired outcomes. Our SFBT counseling is designed to provide a supportive and solution-focused environment that facilitates personal development and empowers individuals to create positive changes in their lives.
